To know the Pangolin people, we need to start by introducing two brothers, Mario Kuisis (above left) and Gerald Kuisis (above right), who became highly motivated to find a way to prevent theft out of motor vehicles after feeling the brunt of several very costly incidents. Research showed that despite the prevalence of such incidents worldwide, there were no practical solutions available on the market.
As engineers, and with Gerald's specialist background in designing high-end security products, the brothers conceptualised a portable safe for laptops, as theft of laptops is particularly common. Mario and Gerald got down to business and made the first Pangolin laptop safe. When it saw the light of day, Pangolin was born.
The name Pangolin was chosen because of the unconventional way that their laptop safe operates. In seconds, the safes go from being fully open and accessible to being fully enclosed, protecting the valuables inside. The novelty was recognised in the granting of a patent and design registrations.
The initial focus was on protecting laptops and similar small or flat valuables. This solution attracted the attention of firearm owners facing the same problem with theft of firearms out of vehicles (with far worse consequences). A complete redesign was needed in order to meet the requirements of the South African Firearms Control Act, Firearms Control Regulations and the SABS standard specified in the Regulations for vehicle firearm safes.
Gerald started from scratch, and his efforts resulted in equally innovative solutions for Pangolin handgun safes and long weapon vehicle safes - both ranges endorsed by Legally Armed and providing total assurance. The advanced, patented design and formidable construction are perfected with a pick-proof lock. This has now set new standards in security and convenience for firearm owners.
Pangolin is also a SCHERM detachable vehicle armour distributor and keeps providing new personal security solutions in response to requests and feedback by proud Pangolin owners.
