SCHERM is a class-leading, innovative soft armour system that puts portable and detachable car armour within reach of ordinary road users. The lightweight armour can be detached to use in different vehicles, requires no intrusive vehicle alterations (so the vehicle warranty is unaffected), and safeguards you and your loved ones from hostile armed attack.
With violent crime rates rising everywhere and especially in South Africa (75 murders and 400 robberies per day on average!), the safety of civilians, the police service, security companies, and community crime-watch patrollers has never been more critical. SCHERM's cost-effective, versatile, portable shield offers unmatched protection against ballistic threats and edged weapons (also stab and frag proof), bringing you the pinnacle of protective innovation through advanced engineering.

This short video clip helps demonstrate the personal protection power of SCHERM:
SCHERM offers lightweight, detachable soft armor designed to defend against bullets, edged weapons, and fragments. This highly durable and reliable bullet resistant barrier provides effective personal protection to the occupants of conventional vehicles against ballistic threats directed at doors, seat backs and head rests.
SCHERM is recommended for use in sets consisting of 2 or 3 parts: Door protector and Seat back and headrest protector. Some vehicles additionally require a door post protector.
Durability is ensured by innovative engineering techniques, construction with advanced ballistic materials and design targeting convenience, flexibility and dependable performance. It offers splinter-proof protection, absorbing multiple high-velocity impacts.
The soft and flexible ballistic core is enclosed in a waterproof sheath, encased in a robust stitched fabric carrier designed to withstand rough handling and prolonged exposure to the arduous vehicle cab environment, including prolonged exposure to heat and UV light.
The bullet resistant ballistic core is made up of multiple layers of high performance UHMWPE material arranged to achieve the rated protection class. Consistency and efficacy are ensured by conducting a ballistic test on a standard sample prepared from every batch of core material.
Carrier material provides durability, strength, resistance to soiling, UV / weather resistant properties and ease of maintenance. Two types are in use, the same on the strike and protected faces:
SCHERM is designed to protect the vital organs on the side and rear of the driver and protects against ballistic threats and bladed weapons:
Ballistic Rating
The Scherm is capable of stopping bullets with varying velocities and calibres, providing an effective barrier against ballistic threats within the rating. Our classification is asserted as the result of tests in a SANAS certified ballistic test laboratory conducted in accordance with the requirements of EN1522 for Windows, Doors, Shutters, Blinds - Bullet Resistance - Requirements and Classification. This is a multiple impact test in which the specimen is subjected to 3 shots fired in both calibres. To pass the test all bullets must be fully stopped.
Two standard versions offer different levels of ballistic protection:
The SCHERM Door protector, Door post protector, Seat back and headrest protectors are supplied to suit most popular vehicles. Some vehicles may require different protectors (left and right-handed versions) for driver and passenger doors.
SCHERM can be customized to meet specific customer requirements, including size, shape, ballistic rating and method of attachment. This flexibility enables integration into diverse applications without compromising security, functionality or aesthetics. It can be used wherever a lightweight bullet-resistant barrier is required, e.g. a bedroom door, guard rooms, huts and guard towers - chat to us about your needs.
The portable nature of SCHERM allows for versatile use in diverse settings and vehicles. In the standard form of supply no preparation is needed. Simply slide the window clips into place. Alternatively, prepare one or multiple vehicles with strips of adhesive Velcro® loops. Attach when required. Detach for convenience when not wanted, or re-attach to another vehicle in seconds.
Although primarily intended for vehicle interiors (where it is seamlessly integrated without compromising mobility), it is light and flexible enough to also be used wherever a bullet, knife and frag resistant barrier is required.
It is available in different sizes and setups, allowing for customisable and tailored protection without compromising functionality.
The easy removal of SCHERM allows for quick adaptation to changing situations, whether facing a ballistic threat or a knife attack - imagine the different uses!
SCHERM is the ultimate shield in personal security.

Here are some more features to see why SCHERM is first-in-class:
IMPORTANT: The SCHERM is not a substitute for a fully armoured vehicle. It is aimed at civilians who occasionally find themselves potentially exposed to firearm attack and wish to reduce risk by obtaining at least some measure of ballistic protection.
SCHERM is intended to augment existing security measures and is not a substitute for proper security protocols, vigilance and personnel training.

Being light in weight, the SCHERM is relatively easy to support and attach. It performs optimally when the protected face is free to move. It is intended to be suspended in air, or on or against or draped over a surface. The standard (non-intrusive) form of supply for SCHERM in vehicles is as follows:
It may also be attached with press studs, eyelets, clips, glue, double sided pressure sensitive adhesive tape, staples, clamps, etc. according to customer preference. It can be adapted to a wide variety of applications, both in vehicles and buildings. Window slide-in clip and draped systems need no preparation. Comprehensive initial installation guidelines and technical support are provided. Although anyone can attach the adhesive Velcro® base for door post protectors, it does need special preparation and great care to ensure proper adhesion. For initial installation, customers can make use of our national network of independent, certified professional installers specialising in vehicle fitment.
IMPORTANT NOTE: It is not recommended to have a solid backing on the protected side of the SCHERM as this may compromise the ballistic performance and rating. It is designed for and tested as a standalone bullet resistant barrier in free air. This means for example that if a door in a building is to be protected, the SCHERM is preferably suspended on the side of the door opposite to the strike face.
